IBYCUS
Lyricus poeta, cuius fragmenta Henr. Steph. collegit. Hunc maxime omnium amore flagrâsse, ex ipsius seriptis constare, scribit Cir. Tusc. Qu. l. 4. Inde proverb. Ibyci grues, quoties sceleribus novo quodam et improviso casu proditis scelesti poenas dant iis, quos laesêrunt. Id ex huiusmodi quodam eventu natum memorant. Ibycus cum in latrones incidisset iam occidendus, grues forte supervolantes obtestatus est.k Aliquanto post tempore, cum iidem latrones in foro sederent, rursumque grues supervolarent,
per iocum intes se susurtabant in autem: Αἱ Ι᾿βύκου ἔκδικοι πάρεισιν. Eum sermonem assidentes in suspicionem rapuêrunt, maxime desiderato iam pridem Ibyco. Rogati quidnam sibi vellet ea oratio, haesitanter et inconstanter respondêrunt, subiecti tormentis facinus confessi sunt. Atque ita velut gruum indico poenas Ibyco dedêrunt. Cuiusmodi ferme Plutarch. in de Futili loquacitate. Aus. in Technopegnion de Historns. v. 12.
Ibycus ut periit, vindex funt altivolans grus.
Antipater ei Epitaphium scripsit. Vide Plat. in Parmen Paus. l. 2. Athen. l. 12. c. 5. Erasm. in adag. Strabo l. 1. p. 59. et l. 6. p. 271. Nic. Lloyd.
